Preeclampsia
Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure and signs of damage to another organ system, most often the liver and kidneys. It usually begins after 20 weeks of pregnancy in women whose blood pressure had previously been normal. Left untreated, preeclampsia can lead to serious, even fatal, complications for both the mother and baby.
At Surabhi Medical Hall, we are committed to providing comprehensive care and close monitoring for pregnant women at risk of or diagnosed with preeclampsia. Our goal is to ensure the health and safety of both mother and baby through personalized care plans and expert medical attention.
The exact cause of preeclampsia remains unknown, but several factors can increase the risk, including a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease, autoimmune disorders, and first-time pregnancies.
Symptoms of preeclampsia can include high blood pressure, protein in the urine, severe headaches, changes in vision, upper abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, and shortness of breath.
Diagnosing preeclampsia involves regular prenatal visits where we monitor your blood pressure and check for protein in your urine. Blood tests, ultrasounds, and fetal monitoring may also be used to assess the severity of the condition and the health of your baby.
Treatment for preeclampsia depends on the severity of the condition and how far along you are in your pregnancy. The only definitive cure for preeclampsia is delivering the baby. If you are near term (37 weeks or later), we may recommend early delivery. If your preeclampsia is mild and you are not close to term, we will closely monitor you and your baby, which may include frequent check-ups, blood tests, ultrasounds, and other fetal monitoring.
Medications may be prescribed to lower blood pressure and prevent seizures, a condition known as eclampsia. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary to manage the condition and stabilize both mother and baby.
Throughout your treatment, we provide education and support to help you understand the condition and manage your health. We are dedicated to helping you navigate this challenging time with confidence and ensuring the best possible outcomes for you and your baby.
